Paphos Brides want to ensure that the planning of your
wedding goes without any complications and so we have compiled
this list detailing the legal requirements specified by
the Cypriot Authorities to help you ensure that you will
have all the necessary paperwork required so that you will
be fully entitled to marry here on your arrival.
- A lot of companies will tell you
that you have to be a resident here in Cyprus for a
certain number of days before you are entitled to marry.
This is not true.
There is no minimum requirement of residency here although
we do recommend that you are here at least 3-4 days
before your wedding date, as on arrival you will have
to visit the town hall for your marriage licence as
well as have meetings with your co-ordinator to finalise
all your arrangements.
Therefore, for your comfort and enjoyment (as you are
supposed to be on holiday) we recommend that you leave
a 3-4 days minimum in order to have time to complete
necessary paperwork etc.
Please check with us on booking as to how much time
you should leave although we do recommend that you are
here for a total of two weeks in order for you to be
able to enjoy your time and relax on our beautiful island.
- You are required to have a valid
10 year passport. This cannot be due to expire within
3 months of your departure back to the UK.
- Full Birth certificates for both
Bride and Groom. Shorter versions are not acceptable.
You can easily obtain full versions for a small fee
from where your birth was registered.
- Decree Absolute if divorced. (photocopies
are not acceptable and absolute needs to have red stamp
of the relevant court).
- If either parties are widowed then
you need death certificate along with previous marriage
certificate.
- If either party is adopted then an
adoption certificate is needed.
- If you have changed your name by
deed poll then proof will be required stamped by a solicitor.
- If under 18 years of age then parental
consent is needed stamped by a solicitor.
- For an Anglican Church wedding then
either the Bride or Groom or both must produce a Baptism
certificate. For catholic weddings then both the Bride
and Groom must have a certificate.
- Affidavit stating you are free to
marry for both the bride and Groom (one per person)
must be obtained from a solicitor. Please contact us
for further information.
- For Irish passport holders a 'Freedom
to Marry Certificate must be obtained from either the
Irish Embassy in England or the Department for Foreign
Affairs in Ireland.
- Two witnesses are required for any
wedding ceremony in Cyprus. You will need to supply
a photocopy of each of your witnesses passports upon
your arrival. If you are travelling alone Paphos Diamond
weddings will be more than happy to arrange witnesses
for you.
- Generally wedding ceremonies are
only performed Monday - Friday and not on any Public
Holidays. We will of course advise you of this on booking.
If you have any questions regarding any of the above
then please do not hesitate to contact us.
Please note -
We will require you to send us all the relevant documentation
prior to arrival although Paphos Brides cannot be held responsible
for any incorrect or forgotten paperwork that may lead to
the cancellation of your wedding on arrival here in Cyprus.
